Getting fed up...
Well, I am.
I spend a lot of time workin, with a regular job and my home business. I don't always get to play for long hours. Today, however, I did, and I tried 11 times to beat thirsty river. Do I think it is that difficult? No, and I did have an excellent group for some of those runs and we just got the luck of the draw on that last healer boss (i HATES him, precious). What I'm fed up with is the total hatred of rangers in the Ascension quests. Am I ready to pay someone to guarantee me victory? Yes, because when you can't get into a party, it does not matter your skill level any more, you're not being rewarded. Anet's not to blame, but rather a group of gamers that cuts it into monk, tank, and nuker. There's no other classes apparently, so we mesmers, rangers, and necros can pack up and go home, nobody wanted to play us anyway...
Because I can't play 10 hours everyday, and spend most of that LFG, I've been three whole weeks on ascension. I'm beginning to think I need to just delete all my characters and make a boring W/Mo just so I can get into a group. This is seriously frustrating. (note pile of hair on floor) Oh well, I'm gonna work on a video card to relax...

Ask your guild to spend half an hour helping you with an Ascension mission. If you've got good teamwork, they're pretty easy.

I'd try that mission with henchmen, they sometimes work and cooperate better that people.
And I know what you mean. I NEVER play a warrior or a monk. I don't like just bein' some brawler, and I don't like just always being expected to heal people. I ADORE background support characters like the necromancer and ranger. Curses, interrupts with mesmers, conditions with rangers.
I have, however, learned that rangers are more necessary than necros or mesmers I'd say, they've all got their strongpoints but I really like to have a ranger in the party. Especially a good one.
That's why I started a ranger, I enjoy working in the background pulling the strings to put the entire enemy force under multiple negative conditions, works really well IMO. Thankfully I've got people in my guild who will help me.

I'm the furthest along in my guild, so I can't ask guildies to help. We're a rather casual group of RL friends and family anyway, so we're not too hardcore. THEY'RE not too hardcore, I mean... I may have a problem.

Do you want to do Thirsty right now? I can tank on one char or I can hop on my mesmer. I've got a guildmate that's an E/Mo that needs to cap Word of Healing and we'd be willing to help you out. You being a R/Me, I can't see us having too much trouble.

If you can catch me online at a time when we (America) does not have favor, I'd be more than willing to help you with river. I've helped dozens of groups through that mission with my monk. My record was 7 in a row

Let's meet in Thirsty 2. I'll go with my mesmer, Amazo Jones. If we join up and we decide I need to switch to tank, it's fine by me.

Elona seemed the hardest out of the three trials up until today... the first day I did it with henchmen. I've done the Ascension trials two times with various characters, and Elona was always the one that I would be stuck on for about 5 tries on average. Today I went in with a henchman group to capture a skill and I could not believe how easy it was when you have group members who know just as well as you do where to go and what to attack. I cleared the bosses in that level much easier than any other of my attempts with a live group.
For the record I always try to pick up a mesmer, necromancer or ranger while doing PvE missions. These support-type characters usually have a much more competent/mature gamer behind them than your average person. At the very least I feel the need to help these professions out since I see many teams (who don't care to understand the value of these characters to the team) passing them up while forming PUGs.

ugh it's sad i have my boyfriend play his monk, and he will only join a party if they take me too ^^; i've been in parties before where monks refused to join because we had too many rangers. What's so bad about rangers? I've noticed the average ranger is far more intellegent then the average warrior.

LOL, I posted a semi-whine not too long ago when I had to ascend with my ranger. Yes, rangers seem to be getting the short end of the stick where partying is concerned. I had the same problem when trying to ascend with my ranger. Finally beat it when I started my own group and invited others...hehe.
My mesmer had the easiest time ascending...beat all the ascension missions first time.

Thristy River is a playground for rangers. You shouldnt find it hard if you are using the proper skills. Hope you do it this time

You expect them to say something? Their vocabulary seems to consit of "WTF monk y u no heal me" "rez plz" and "heal plz" and "we need another monk to do this 4 isn't enough". My best non-guilde non-friends group was a pug I made of all rangers and necros besides me (e/mo).

A ranger is probably the ultimate anti-caster, more so than a mesmer, because they can interrupt a caster outside of the caster's spell range, and then set them on fire. Anybody who doesn't realize how cool this is probably an idiot. Also, I love necromancers and mesmers, and always try to have one or the other in a group. But then again, I'm not most players.
If you ever need help with ascension, and I'm no, PM me and I'll try to help ya.

Because what good is disrupting the caster without setting them on fire?

since you are a r/me like me, pack a backfire on your skillbar for the last healer boss. never had much problems with him then, since that mostly neutered all healing.
or maybe Diversion will do the trick also.
A ranger can change the battlefield with spirits. rangers rock period.
the ones giving us a bad name are those guys that keep running in arena's when its an entire team against him/her alone. a long game starts then. especially if the war has forgotten a snare.......
